risk category 5

We are officially in risk category 5, but I have achieved my state of clear. Everything is pretty much done at this point. Now it’s just struggling thru half this week at work until I can set my out of office and I’m on the road.

Friday afternoon I got my hairs re-redded.

And brows waxed. Slowly emerging from the August chrysalis state. Still pampering my face trying to get it back to a decent state after getting irritated by some sunscreen 2 weeks ago. Still got a couple of rough spots on either side of my mouth. Come through Aquaphor!

Friday night I got the base coat put on my Padme headbands and did a few other small sewing things – I made some interior straps for the upper part of the sleeves of the lake dress, thankfully still had my dye in a bucket in the back yard so I was able to dye them to match LOL. Also started pulling out stuff to pack (FINALLY I AM SO LATE ON PACKING THIS YEAR) and the only thing I couldn’t find offhand was my Donna Noble earrings. ARGH. I keep all my costume jewelry in a jewelry box in my sewing room and it wasn’t there. Sometimes my Donna jewelry is in my beaded clutch I carry with Unicorn and the Wasp – not there. Checked my “normal person” jewelry box, no luck. Checked my Donna box just in case they got tossed down in there, nada.

So since I had to go to Hobby Lobby saturday I decided I’d just make new earrings. The hoops weren’t accurate to Unicorn & the Wasp anyway, so I figured it’s a good opportunity to make something correct. I’ll get to that in a bit tho.

Saturday morning I focused on the headbands again, a second coat of paint and then doing some darker purple washes over it to bring out the details. Unfortunately some of the details weren’t deep enough – the mottling kinda got lost even with the darker washes. So that’s something Chase is doing to adjust for the next time we print them.

Then I went and met the girls at Crosstown for lunch, and some Wizards Unite in the atrium.

Saw some art.

It me

And saw this on the way back:

A homemade SKELETOR LIVES sign. Love it.

Saturday afternoon we ran errands (wig store – WHERE ARE ALL MY WIG CAPS? I had to buy 4 new ones. Target run for con food, etc.) Then it was back to work on the headbands. Chase gave me superglue to adhere my grey pearls on and of course I got it all over myself. By the end of the evening I couldn’t feel anything with the fingertips on my left hand.

For the smaller bands with the smaller pearls I ended up switching to hot glue instead, because it got to be just too hard to pick up those tiny pearls with the tweezer, get super glue on them, and get them in place – they kept wanting to pop out of the tweezers and land super-glue-side-down on my legs.
Also Sunday discovered a good way to get superglue off my fingers; I was doing dishes and scrubbed my finger tips with the hard scrubby side of the sponge. Came right off.

Anyway once the pearls were done, I cut strips of brown felt and glued it to the bottom side of each band. The biggest one, the one in the front, I sewed a hair comb on the bottom at the center. All of the other ones I sewed directly onto the wig so I didn’t have to worry about them coming off or getting out of place.

I can’t permanently attach the big one – it’s kinda hard to get on, I have to put it on around my neck and then push it up around my face. Can’t put it on from the top of my head. So if I’d sewn it onto the wig it would make getting the wig on pretty tricky. So instead I’ll put it on once I have the wig on, held in place with the comb I sewed on, and I also glued some extra strips of felt on the inside to make loops for bobbie pins.

Overall pretty happy with them, Chase has plans for a version 2 later down the road. This was the first thing he ever 3d modeled!

So next I went back to some more crafting. Made my new Donna earrings – I’d bought a pack of clip-on earring backs a couple of weeks ago for Hera earrings so thankfully I had those on hand. Bought some champagne coloured crystals and just wired those around the bases, with another stone covering the front-facing base. So guess what I found right after finishing them? Yep my Donna earrings were laying in front of my jewelry box, just covered up by a comic book laying there. I hadn’t thought to pick up the comic. Oh well, at least now I have new Donna earrings. I didn’t take pics tho.

I also ended up making a new Hera crown. This was the first one I made a couple of weeks ago:

(Wig is not styled, I’ll be styling it when I put it on – but I put it on to get an idea of how it’ll look.)

I just thought what I ended up with was too much, too chunky. So I made a simplified version:

I think that looks much better.

Sunday, I started packing in earnest while Chase finished up a few prop things for me.
First, he ended up 3d printing me a new tricorder. The first ones’ hinges broke.

He got the graphics attached and its ready to go.

And he got my necklace cast and then cleaned up:

As I was packing I came across my Carrie wig and was reminded I had wanted to dye it darker, like I did my Crait wigs. So I pulled out all the same dye, got it going and…

OOPS. Yeah I didn’t put as much water in so it wasn’t diluted. Totally ruined. I went ahead and ruined it the rest of the way after that, why not. LOL.
I mean I wasn’t too upset because if I couldn’t wear Carrie it wasn’t a giant deal because it’s not a new costume (and I wouldn’t have to drag Gary down there… LOL), but I hopped on amazon and scrolled back in my purchase history and found the exact same wig again and ordered it. It will be here tomorrow so I’ll just have to a quick thinning and cut bangs into it. If I have time I’ll do the darker roots and blonder edges but no telling.

Other than that, packing went smoothly.

Do I have enough eyelashes? I had planned to have 6 pairs – 1 set for each day and 1 backup pair in case I ruined any (I do that fairly often…) and couldn’t reuse them. I kept buying them in sets of 2 thinking I didn’t have enough yet, anytime I was at walgreens or target. At least I know I probably have enough to carry me through the rest of the year. LOL

I had my bin downstairs in the dining room and had to carry everything down to it, which was kind of a pain. But there’s no way I could have packed the bin upstairs and then tried to get it downstairs by myself LOL.

Ash came over for a bit and used my silhouette, and I finally got my other Crait sleeve sewn on.

By late afternoon I was done packing… well, at least everything I could pack as of yesterday. So I decided to reward myself by putting together our new Contemporary monorail set.

It’s so cute! I can’t wait to put it up at Christmas! When I went to WDW last year I also got the standalone monorail set for the tree, so we’ll have 2 monorail lines. Monorail Blue can be our epcot line. I didn’t unpacking that one yet; I’ll save that for Christmas. Chase is now plotting on 3D printing some other things for the monorail line.

Went to dinner with mom and Jean and Jean gave me a new ironing board. Here’s my family of ironing boards:

And I guess the built-in board in our laundry room is the family pet.

Chase finished up my necklace last night, gotta get the closure attached to it tonight.

And he’s finishing up my armbands tonight too.

Lake dress is the only thing that’s NOT packed, it’s going to be put in a garment bag last thing before we leave.

So to-do list:
Style new Carrie wig
Put closure on Padme necklace
Finish armbands
Last bit of packing ie things like chargers, dcon postcard, printing off confirmations, etc.

I think it might be time to go ahead and download the Sims Island Living in prep for my week of doing nothing post-Dragoncon. And then the magic expansion the next week!
